Ok, so here goes….the nerd in me is thrilled with this book but the author in me was not quite so impressed. Granted, anything canonical that adds depth to the Potter universe is praise worthy in is own right, but I thought that the book suffered a bit for depth of story.
Perhaps this has more to do with the play format than the actual story line, but parts of it felt contrived. There were some nice nods to classic Harry Potter themes, but the story spent too much time in the past. Harry also felt stiff and not at all as he appeared in the earlier books.
That having been said, the concept that Voldemort would actually lie with a woman is creepy on so many levels. It opens the door to a title wave of conspiracy theories-not a bad thing, and it will give the fandom something new to speculate about.
Overall, I would rate this book a 4*. It is a must have/must read book.
